Aphthae

Description/Info:

Aphthae (painful ulceration that usually affects the oral mucosa).

Aphthae also termed recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), (recurrent) oral aphthae and (recurrent) aphthous ulceration, is the medical term for canker sores.

It is a recurrent disease of the oral mucosa of unknown aetiology characterized by small white round or oval ulcerative lesions. Two to eight crops of lesions occur at one time, last for 7 to 14 days and then heal without scarring.
